Mob Control

by ohayden

Mob Control is a rule-based system that lets modpack designers decide which mobs spawn, where, when and how they behave, all set in one human-readable config file.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 26.1.2

What it does

Rules are written in mobcontrol.toml and processed from top to bottom. The first rule that matches a mob decides whether it may spawn. Rules can change many properties of a mob, such as experience reward, health and damage, and they can attach custom AI to any mob.

Spawn conditions can be limited to specific dimensions, biomes, structures, days, weather and times of the day. Spawn rates can be raised or spawning blocked outright. Both the server and every player's client run the mod, so each side needs it installed.

Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with builds covering 1.20.1 – 26.1.2. The latest file is 2.0.1-beta-2 for 26.1.2, released 2026-07-17 on the beta channel. The mod is licensed as All rights reserved and is not open source. Configuration options are documented on the project's wiki.

Key features

  1. Block mob spawning

Any mob can be prevented from spawning with a single rule in the configuration file.

  2. Adjust spawn rates

The spawn rate of any mob can be raised or lowered to change how often it appears.

  3. Dimension, biome and structure limits

A rule can restrict a mob to chosen dimensions, biomes or structures.

  4. Day, weather and time rules

Mobs can be set to spawn only on certain days, in certain weather or at certain times of the day.

  5. Custom mob AI and stats

Health, damage, experience and custom AI behaviors can be assigned to any mob through rules.

Questions

Does the mod have to be installed on both sides?

How are the rules applied?

Rules in mobcontrol.toml are read from top to bottom, and the first rule that matches a mob is used to allow or block its spawning.

Which loaders are supported?

Fabric, Forge and NeoForge all have files. The newest build is 2.0.1-beta-2 for 26.1.2.

Where is the configuration documented?

All configuration options are described on the project's wiki, linked from the mod page.
