styled renaming
by rosebud
Styled renaming lets players give anvil items formatted names, using colour, hex and text tags on Fabric and Quilt servers.
What it does
Anvils gain extra formatting, so a renamed item can carry colour tags, hex colour codes, bold, italic, underlined, strikethrough and obfuscated text, plus gradients built from several colours. The formatting tags are the built-in set and operate as plain text tags typed into the anvil name field. Renamed items keep their styled name in tooltips, and the anvil's maximum name length is raised so longer tagged names fit.
On the server side the work happens, and players join without installing anything. Installing it on a client adds a few quality-of-life changes, but these are optional. The mod is built on Fabric API, Polymer and Text Placeholder API, which are required dependencies, and it also includes small fixes and some code taken from another mod's approach to placeholders. Files are published for Fabric and Quilt, with the latest build 1.4.0+26.2 for 26.3, and the mod is licensed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, so the source is open.
Key features
Colourful anvil names
Anvils accept colour tags and hex colour codes, so a renamed item can display colours beyond the default palette.
Text formatting tags
Bold, italic, underlined, strikethrough and obfuscated tags format a renamed item's name without any extra items.
Gradients
Gradient text can be produced from several colours in one tag, giving a single name a shaded look.
Longer anvil names
The anvil text box allows a larger maximum length, so tagged names with many tags still fit.
Renamed items show styled names
A renamed item shows its formatted name with the tags applied in tooltips and the item display.
