StargazerLib

by Natsu91

A Forge library, StargazerLib draws glTF GLB meshes straight onto Minecraft entities, carrying over skeletons, animation clips and textures.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.18.2

What it does

Entities rendered through the library can show real meshes instead of the cube-based models that GeckoLib draws, so a Blender model appears on an entity with its skeleton, animation clips and textures intact. The GLB file is loaded as-is and drawn through Minecraft's own rendering pipeline, which means lighting and shaders apply as they do to vanilla models.

The library was built for artists who model in Blender and export low-poly work that other tools handle poorly. It registers a generic renderer, so mod authors can attach a model to an entity without writing a custom renderer for each one.

StargazerLib runs on the client and the server, so both sides need it. It is published for Forge only, with the single build 0.1.0 for 1.18.2, released on 2026-07-26 on the alpha channel. The code is not open source; it is released as All rights reserved, while the source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. GLB model rendering

Loads glTF GLB files directly and draws their actual meshes on entities, without converting them to cubes.

  2. Skeletal animation

Plays skinned animation clips on entities, with cross-fading between clips.

  3. Textures and scaling

Applies textures from the model and handles automatic scaling, so exported models keep their proportions in game.

  4. Generic entity renderer

A registered generic renderer lets other mods attach a GLB model to an entity without a custom renderer.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Mod authors who build entities with animated GLB models, and artists who want their Blender exports shown in game as they were made.

How it compares

Full comparison

GeckoLib is the usual choice for animated entities, but it renders only cubes, while StargazerLib renders real meshes from GLB files. MCglTF is a client-side only option for Fabric and Forge across 1.12.2 – 1.19.3 under the MIT License, and it is not open source. Polymesh is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, is client-side only, and targets 1.20.1 on Forge.

Questions

Does StargazerLib need to be installed on the server?

Yes. The server and every player need the mod installed.

Which loaders and game versions does StargazerLib support?

StargazerLib is published for Forge only, and its single game version is 1.18.2. The latest file is 0.1.0 for 1.18.2.

Can StargazerLib replace GeckoLib in an existing mod?

Other mods are expected to call on StargazerLib in roughly the same manner they call on GeckoLib. Mod authors add it as a library and keep their Blender workflow, but the entity models must be GLB files.

In the catalog

StargazerLib is one of 3,514 Library mods on ModsFinder, and one of 1,576 Library mods for Forge. 9,044 mods support Minecraft 1.18.2.

What the author says

StargazerLib is a library that renders and animates glTF / GLB models directly on Minecraft entities, with their skeleton, animations and textures. In short: it's like GeckoLib, but for real meshes instead of cubes.
