Stack Enchants

by InventoXtar

Stack Enchants lets a server merge enchanted books that share the same enchantment into a single book, so duplicate copies stop filling inventory slots.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalAll rights reserved1.20 – 1.21.4

What it does

The mod is a datapack rather than a Java library, so it adds no new items, blocks or screens. Once installed, the datapack detects when several enchanted books carry the same enchantment and merges them into one book. Players keep the enchantment and only the number of inventory slots changes.

Installation means placing the datapack file into the datapacks folder of a world, then opening the world and running a reload. The Stack Enchants datapack is available for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the latest file, 1.0+mod for 1.21.4, was published on 2024-12-15. Files exist for game versions 1.20 – 1.21.4, and the mod is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Only the server has to load the datapack for merging to happen, and the server can run it without any player installing it. Clients that join the same world display the merged books normally.

Key features

  1. Automatic book merging

Enchanted books with identical enchantments are combined into one book without any player action.

  2. Stacking identical enchantments

Multiple copies of the same enchantment collapse into a single book, which frees inventory space.

  3. Reduced inventory clutter

Players who collect many books of one enchantment no longer need to carry each copy separately.

  4. Works through datapacks

The behavior is delivered as a datapack, so it loads into an existing world without a mod loader.

How it compares

Full comparison

Simple Copy is a server-side only option under the MIT License, open source, and published for 1.20 – 1.21.8, so its environment matches Stack Enchants but it copies items rather than merging enchanted books. Better Enchantments is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, covers 1.21.5 – 1.21.11, and is needed on the server, with the client optional; it changes enchanting rather than merging books.
