Shields+

by Insane96

Shields+ changes how shields work in Minecraft Java Edition, adding new enchantments and stats for the shield item.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

The mod alters shield mechanics: a shield blocks a set amount of incoming damage, is raised for a limited time before a cooldown starts, and can be lifted again after that. Shields made from vanilla materials gain different stats, and the shield values can be changed through a data pack. Wooden and Netherite shields are added to the set of shield materials.

Shields can be enchanted at an enchanting table with new enchantments. Reinforced and Aegis increase the damage a shield blocks or reduce the damage that gets through, Reflection and Recoil return part of the damage or knock back attackers and projectiles, and Ablaze sets projectiles on fire. Reinforced and Reflection are incompatible with each other, and Aegis is incompatible with Reinforced Reflection.

Installation needs InsaneLib, which is required. Shields+ runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 2.3.0.1 for 1.21.1 as the latest NeoForge file. The mod is not open source and is released under All rights reserved, though public links to its source code and issue tracker exist.

Key features

  1. Adjustable shield mechanics

Blocked damage, raise time, cooldown and the time before a shield can be raised again are all configurable values.

  2. New shield enchantments

Reinforced, Aegis, Reflection, Recoil and Ablaze add effects that can be placed on shields at an enchanting table.

  3. Wooden and Netherite shields

Shields made from additional materials join the vanilla shield, each with its own stats.

  4. Data pack stats

Shield stats can be changed through a data pack, so server owners can tune how shields behave.
