Enhanced AI
by Insane96
Enhanced AI, a Forge and NeoForge mod by Insane96, changes how vanilla mobs choose targets, climb, mount and react to their surroundings.
What it does
Creepers flee from a primed explosion, zombies can dig toward a target with a stone pickaxe and bite nearby entities, and skeletons can aim from farther away. Mobs that get stuck in a boat or minecart break it free. The default settings add some challenge to vanilla difficulty, and the config file can push the behavior further or soften it.
The mod changes only vanilla mobs as of version 3, because modded mobs may not work correctly with the new behavior. Modded mobs can still be added through the entity type tags described on the wiki. The mod requires InsaneLib, and it runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge across five release versions, 1.18.2 – 1.21.1, and the code is under All rights reserved, so the project is not open source.
Key features
Fleeing from explosions
Nearby mobs step away from a charged creeper or from lit TNT before the blast.
Tunneling toward targets
Mobs can dig a path to their target, and zombies start with a stone pickaxe by default.
Fishing rod pulls
Mobs holding a fishing rod can reel players in, and a chance exists that items from the target's inventory are reeled instead.
Ender pearl travel
Mobs carrying ender pearls use them to reach a target, and zombies spawn with three by default.
Wider targeting
Mobs see farther, sense targets through walls, stop fighting one another and can be affected by blindness.

Use cases
Harder survival worlds
Players who want vanilla mobs to pose more of a threat can raise the difficulty through the config file.
Customized mob behavior
Server owners can decide which mobs flee, mount or dig, and which blocks anger zombified piglins.
Who it’s for: The mod suits players and server owners who want vanilla mobs to act differently, and who are willing to edit a config file to set the behavior.
