Enhanced Hordes

by nojustgavin

Enhanced Hordes changes how zombies, skeletons, piglins and iron golems fight in groups, adding climbing, wall breaking and fire spread to Forge and NeoForge worlds.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT License1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Zombies can climb onto one another to form tall hordes that reach players standing on higher ground and can break through walls. Before a wall gives way, a warning sound plays as it begins to rumble. Skeletons put their bows away when other skeletons are close or when a player gets too near, then dash back and take their bows again. Piglins switch between a sword at close range and a crossbow at distance.

Fire spreads from one burning zombie to others it touches, so a single spark can set a whole horde alight, and ignited mobs move faster. Iron golems are adjusted to handle these larger groups. The mod is set up through a config file that can be fully customized, and gamerules such as HordeStacking, HordeMultiplying and HordeSmashingPower control the same behavior, with datapacks able to change them too. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. Files are published for Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1, with the 2.0 release dated 2026-07-03. The code is under the MIT License and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Climbing hordes

Zombies climb on each other to build large groups that can reach players who stand higher up.

  2. Wall breaking

Large groups of mobs break through walls, after a rumbling warning, and zombies dig through the ground under others.

  3. Fire spread

Burning mobs ignite others they touch, and ignited mobs move faster, so one spark can light a whole horde.

  4. Weapon switching

Skeletons hide their bows near other skeletons or close players, and piglins swap between sword and crossbow by distance.
