Shield Upgrades turns each shield into a crafted item with new effects, and its nine special shields are gained by collecting rare materials.
What it does
Players obtain a shield through a setup step, then craft the new shields from ultra-rare materials. Each special shield carries its own stat changes, such as added maximum health, faster attack speed, a higher swimming speed or better underwater mining. Some shields set attackers on fire or apply the wither effect, and one shield grants protection similar to a Totem of Undying. The new shields are said to double the durability of a normal shield, and one is immune to the End's void.
The mod is aimed at combat and exploration on survival worlds and multiplayer servers. Because the shields change the balance between fighting styles, players can pick the one that suits how they play. Only the server needs the mod for the shield recipes and effects to apply, while clients may leave it out. Shield Upgrades is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, and files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 26.3 as the latest build.

Nine special shields
The mod adds nine special shields, each with its own set of bonuses and effects in combat or travel.
Stat bonuses
Shields can add maximum health, attack speed, movement speed, water movement efficiency, oxygen and submerged mining speed.
Attacker effects
Certain shields set nearby attackers on fire or apply the wither effect when they strike the holder.
Rare material crafting
The upgraded shields are crafted from ultra-rare materials that players gather during exploration.
Totem-like protection
One shield works like a Totem of Undying, giving a second chance when the holder would otherwise die.
