Lucky Blocks
by lullaby
Lucky Blocks is a set of datapack surprises: breaking a lucky block drops a random item, block, chest loot, trap, weapon or armored enemy.
What it does
The lucky block is shown with display entities from newer versions, so no resource pack is needed. Breaking one triggers a random surprise drawn from items, blocks, chest loot, traps, weapons, armor and heavily armed enemies, which makes the content suited to lucky block races.
The datapack is aimed at multiplayer servers and at other map or adventure builds. Server owners install the datapack on the server; players need nothing extra, since the client is optional. The license is GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later, and the source code is public. Files target 1.21 – 26.3, and the latest build is 1.3.3+mod for 26.3, released 2026-10-07.
Key features
Random surprise drops
Each broken lucky block rolls a random result from a broad pool of items, blocks and chest loot.
Traps and enemies
Some results spawn traps, weapons, armor or heavily armed enemies around the player.
Resource-pack-free display
The block is rendered with display entities, so no texture pack is needed to see it.
Lucky blocks in the overworld
Lucky blocks can be placed across the overworld through a separate add-on that is installed on its own.
