Sable

by ryanhcode

Sable is a library for interactive moving block structures, called sub-levels, that Fabric and NeoForge games on Minecraft 1.21.1 can build on.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverCustom license1.21.1

What it does

Sable gives other mods a way to create and manage sub-levels, which are block structures that move and interact as their own physical units. The library runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Builds are published for Fabric and NeoForge, and the code is covered by a custom license that is not open source.

Sable requires Fabric API, and Create, ImGuiMC and Create Aeronautics are optional companions. The mod bundles Forge Config API Port and Veil internally. It is required by 191 other mods, including Create Aeronautics, Create: Aeroworks and Create Deep Seas, so it mostly matters as a dependency for those projects. Files for 1.21.1 were last updated on 2026-10-03.

Key features

  1. Sub-level assembly command

The /sable command assembles, modifies and queries sub-levels from the game chat.

  2. Sub-level splitting

Structures can be split into separate sub-levels using a region algorithm that keeps the pieces moving independently.

  3. Physics pipeline

Rapier, a physics engine from the Dimforge project, is part of the default pipeline that moves sub-levels.

  4. Sub-level rendering

A dedicated renderer draws sub-levels, with optimizations aimed at keeping frame rates steady.

Use cases

Moving machines

Mods such as Create Aeronautics can build flying or floating contraptions on top of sub-levels.

Modpack builders

Pack authors who combine Create add-ons can rely on one shared library for structures that move.

Who it’s for: Players of modpacks that include a dependent mod, and developers who want interactive block structures in Fabric or NeoForge games. Sable does not add content to survival on its own, so players who only want new blocks or items will not find them here.

Questions

Does Sable need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is listed as a required dependency, so it must be installed alongside Sable on Fabric.

Does Sable have to be installed on the server?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Can Sable be used in survival without other mods?

Not for building sub-levels. Sable does not add any content to survival, and assembly is done with the /sable command.

In the catalog

Sable is one of 3,514 Library mods on ModsFinder, and one of 2,348 Library mods for Fabric. 32,366 mods support Minecraft 1.21.1.
