Veil
by Foundry
With Veil installed, Fabric and NeoForge mod developers get shader, framebuffer, post-processing and animation tools for 1.21.1.
What it does
Veil is a library for mod authors who want advanced rendering in Java Minecraft. It bundles a color system that works with Themes, easing functions for smoother motion, and JSON-driven custom framebuffers. A post-processing pipeline with simple texture binding lets a mod apply its own screen effects.
Shader support covers all OpenGL shader types, and existing shaders can be injected into and modified without replacing them. The Necromancer module adds bone-based animated models, including skeletons that run independently of the entity they belong to. Veil requires Fabric API on Fabric, and it has to run on the client, while the server may leave it out. The code is under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, so the project is open source. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21.1, with 4.5.2 as the latest build.
Key features
Color management
Colors can be defined and managed centrally, then used with Themes across a mod's interface.
Easing functions
Easing curves give animations a more natural rise and fall than linear interpolation.
JSON framebuffers
Custom framebuffers are declared in JSON, so rendering targets can be set up without code changes.
Shader modification
Existing shaders can be injected into and changed to suit a specific rendering need.
Bone-based models
The Necromancer module animates entities through bone structures, with independent skeletons and models.

Use cases
Custom screen effects
A mod can run its own post-processing stage and bind textures to it through the pipeline.
Animated entities
Entity models can be posed with bones and given separate skeletons for animation.
Who it’s for: Mod developers who build rendering or animation features on top of Fabric or NeoForge, and who want shader, framebuffer and model tools in one dependency.
How it compares
Shaderite is a NeoForge client mod for 1.21 – 1.21.1, released under the MIT License and open source, covering a narrower shader scope. Unified API runs on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21.11 – 26.3 under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and it can be installed on either side. Veil's files target 1.21.1 only.
