Recovery+

The compass records each dimension a player crosses through a Nether Portal, End Portal or End Gateway, and a new waypoint is added to its backlog at every crossing. When the player dies, the compass points to the first portal crossed, so the route back can be retraced step by step. Once a waypoint is reached, the compass moves on to the next one, guiding the player through the path they took.

The mod suits exploration: a player can cross into a ruined Nether Portal or an End island without remembering the way, and the compass keeps the trail. The item description updates live with the current target. Support for portals added by other mods and for entities such as lost horses was added after the Modfest, while a vanilla compass only points north.

Recovery+ is open source and requires Fabric API. It runs on client and server, and files are published for Fabric and Quilt, with 1.0+1.20 for 1.20.1 as the latest build, across the 1.19.1 – 1.20.1 range. The code is released with a copyleft license that the European Union issued for public software.
