SpawnProtectionTweaks

by macbrayne

SpawnProtectionTweaks gives Fabric server owners in-game control over spawn protection, replacing the vanilla configuration for the area around the world spawn.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.17.1 – 1.18

What it does

Server owners can change spawn protection settings while the server runs, and the mod overrides the vanilla configuration for them. The mod switches to a newer event based system instead of relying on the vanilla catch actions, and its options can be limited to a single dimension when advanced event options are enabled. Under that system a separate permission scheme applies. Most query commands can be used from command blocks, and an optional alias lets players call the command as spawnprotectiontweaks.

Permission nodes are formatted under spawnprotectiontweaks, and the mod works with permission plugins such as LuckPerms and other mods that support the Fabric Permission API. A dedicated override permission lets players bypass spawn protection. The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing it, and it is released under the MIT License as open source. Files target 1.17.1 and 1.18, with 0.4.1+1.18 for 1.18 as the latest, published 2021-12-10 on the beta channel. Support for the 1.17 builds ends at the close of January 2022, and bug fixes for 1.18 run until the end of March 2022.

Key features

  1. Spawn protection controls

Admins can change the spawn protection settings in-game, with no edits to the vanilla server files.

  2. Per-dimension event rules

Options can cover blocks and entities in a chosen dimension, including attacking, using and breaking.

  3. Permission bypass

An override permission lets selected players act inside the protected spawn area.

  4. Command block access

Most query commands work from command blocks, so automated setups can read the current settings.

How it compares

Sign Searcher targets 1.16.3 – 1.17.1 and runs client-side only under the MIT License, so it adds a client feature rather than changing server rules. GlobalSpawn runs on client and server together for Fabric and Quilt across 1.16.4 – 1.21.5, and it addresses spawn placement rather than protection.
