Recipes Library
Recipes Library gives mod authors and recipe makers custom crafting, smelting and renaming recipe types for Forge and NeoForge, and it must be on both the server and every player's client.
What it does
The library provides implementations of recipe types that other mods can use. Its recipe types cover renaming, where a result is produced from an ingredient carrying a name tag, and component-based recipes, where the result's data components, such as a written book's contents, are merged into the output. Recipes are written in JSON, with a type, an ingredient and a result that can name a registry item and its components.
Ingredients can be matched by registry id, by component data, or by both. When a match uses components, the input item's data has to match exactly for the recipe to fire, and the match type decides how strictly that is checked. Three other catalog mods depend on Recipes Library: ManyIdeas Doors, ManyIdeas Christmas and Dynamical Compass. Each of them lists it as a required dependency, so it must be installed for them to run.
Files are published for Forge and NeoForge across 25 release versions, 1.17.1 – 26.3. The latest Forge file is 1.20.1-2.0.2 for 1.20.1, and the latest NeoForge file is 26.1-4.0.2 for 26.3, both dated 2026-10-10. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source, although its source code, issue tracker and wiki are public.
Key features
Renaming recipe type
A recipe type that takes one ingredient and returns a result carrying a custom name from a name tag.
Component merging
Results can merge data components into the output, such as the contents of a written book, so the crafted item keeps them.
Registry and component ingredients
Ingredients are matched by registry id, by component data, or by both, with a match type that sets how strictly components must agree.
Four-element ingredients
A dedicated ingredient type accepts four elements, letting a recipe combine item, id and component conditions in one entry.

How it compares
EMI is a client-side recipe viewer that is open source under the MIT License, requires Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and runs on 1.18.2 – 1.21.1 with the client required and the server optional. Bookshelf is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, with builds for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt covering 1.7.10 – 26.3 and client and server together. Recipes Library does not provide a recipe viewer; it adds recipe types and is not open source.
