Quick Skin
by ThePlum
Players who want a new look without leaving the game can use Quick Skin, a utility that swaps skins and capes in-game, including on offline servers.
What it does
Quick Skin switches a player skin without restarting or returning to the launcher. The default skin system uses fixed resolutions and offers no animated capes, and the mod removes both limits. Skins can be replaced in the game, and the player model can be changed between the Classic and the other standard form at once.
The mod works in single-player and multiplayer. It needs Architectury API on every loader, and Fabric API on Fabric. Quick Skin works on either side, and neither the client nor the server needs it. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, covering 17 release versions across 1.20.1 – 26.3, and the code is under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Public links exist for the source code.
Key features
Model swapping
Classic and the other standard player model can be switched instantly, without reloading the game.
Cape selector
A library of built-in capes is available, and players can import their own animated or static capes.
Skin format conversion
Legacy 64x32 skins are converted to the modern format when imported, so older files still display correctly.
Preview downsampling
HD skins are reduced for previews and thumbnails to keep the interface responsive, and the config holds quality settings.
Full resolution in the world
The detailed version of an HD skin is shown in-game, so the reduced previews do not affect how the player looks in the world.
GIF texture atlas
Animated GIFs are packed into an efficient texture atlas, which lets capes animate in-game smoothly.

Use cases
Offline servers
Players on offline-mode servers can change skins without having to log into a launcher account first.
Animated capes
Users who want animated capes rather than the standard fixed-resolution textures can import GIFs and display them in the world.
Who it’s for: Players who change their appearance often, and server owners who want skin and cape changes to happen without launcher steps. Quick Skin is not needed for the basic game and is installed on whichever side a player wants to use it.
