Nick Hider
by przxmus
Nick Hider masks the names, skins, capes and UUIDs of players on the client so that a screenshot or stream does not reveal who is in view.
What it does
Nick Hider is a client-side privacy mod. It replaces the displayed name, skin and cape of the local player and of other players with a neutral alias or with skins and capes taken from configured source accounts. Masking covers common vanilla rendering and text paths, so the local player can check on joining a world or server that their own name, skin and cape are hidden before anyone else sees them.
Settings are split into a local-player section and an other-players section, with a global switch that turns the masking behavior on or off at once. A first-time setup suggestion helps new users choose a starting configuration. After a config save or reload, the mod refreshes its skin and cape sources in the background. The jar goes into the mods folder for Fabric, Forge or NeoForge, and the environment is client-side only, so servers run without it. The project is open source and publishes its source code and issue tracker, and the code is covered by a copyleft license that requires derivative works to remain open.

How it compares
Local Capes is open source under the MIT License and published for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, so it displays capes without hiding names. Quick Skin is not open source, released under All rights reserved for 1.20.1 – 26.3, and it works on either side, with neither side needing it, so it changes skins rather than masking them. PlayerNameHider is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and limited to Fabric for 1.21 – 1.21.1, and it hides names only.
