Local Capes

by JinRui_MaoMao

Players who want to wear Java capes or their own PNG capes can do so in-game with Local Capes, a client-side mod that needs Architectury API.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Local Capes lets a player wear one of 50 bundled Java capes, or a custom PNG cape of their own, without any server involvement. The bundled set is grouped into categories such as Account, Staff, Physical Events, Virtual Events and Personal, with Competition and Volunteer entries. It also includes Dungeons-themed capes from the Minecraft Dungeons games. Capes are visible only to the player who equips them, since the mod runs on the client alone.

Each cape can carry an optional night glow that makes it stand out in dark places, and the glow can be turned off. A cape that has no elytra design keeps the vanilla elytra texture. Architectury API is required on every loader, and the mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source.

Key features

  1. Bundled Java capes

Fifty Java capes ship with the mod, grouped by category for quick browsing.

  2. Custom PNG capes

A player can load their own PNG image as a cape without leaving the game.

  3. Single scrolling page

The cape list is one scrolling page in wiki order, with a dropdown filter by title.

  4. Night glow option

Capes can glow in dark places, and the glow can be switched off per cape.

Use cases

Local cosmetics on any server

A player who wants a cape but plays on a server without the mod can still wear it, since only the client renders it.

Custom event or team capes

A community member can load a personal PNG cape for a meetup or a team, without asking a server owner to add it.

Who it’s for: Players who want cosmetic capes on their own client. Server owners do not need to install anything, since the mod is client-side only.
