Client Capes

by IIpho3nix

Client Capes lets a player show a custom cape in-game, using cape files stored in a folder inside the .minecraft directory.

FabricClient-side onlyGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.7

What it does

A player places cape designs in either image or animated format into the folder for capes, then launches a Fabric profile. The Change Cape button on the main menu cycles through the files until the wanted cape is shown in the top left corner of the screen. The selected cape is then visible in-game, which lets a player showcase a unique look.

The mod is client-side only, so the cape is seen only by the player who uses it. Other players on a server cannot see it. Only Fabric files are published, for 1.20.1, 1.20.4, 1.20.6, 1.21, 1.21.1, 1.21.4, 1.21.5 and 1.21.7, and the latest file is 1.0.0 for 1.21.7. Client Capes is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, with public links to the source code and issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Static and animated capes

Cape designs can be either still images or animated files, placed in the capes folder.

  2. Cape cycling on the main menu

A Change Cape button on the main menu steps through the available cape files one at a time.

  3. Selected cape display

The chosen cape appears in the top left corner of the screen so the player can confirm the choice.

  4. Local-only visibility

Capes show only for the player using them, and remote players see nothing unless they also run the mod.

Use cases

Showing a personal style

A player keeps several designs in the capes folder and switches between them in single-player or on a server.

Trying animated capes

Animated cape files let a player test moving designs before deciding which to keep.

Who it’s for: Players who want custom cape designs on their own client and do not need other players to see them. It suits those who are willing to obtain cape files themselves and check them before use.
