SpecialSkin
by thosea
SpecialSkin lets a player set their own skin and cape, and show custom skins and capes on other players' models on their screen.
What it does
Each player can customize a skin and a cape for their own character, and can also choose the skin and cape shown on other players. The choices are made on the client, so nothing has to change on a server. A toggle controls whether the other-player skins and capes are displayed on the local screen, which lets a player keep the vanilla look of other people while still using their own customization.
Textures are replaced through texture packs rather than inside the mod. The default textures sit under the assets/offlineskins path: skin.png and cape.png cover the general case, with separate files for the player's own model and for others. Later builds of the mod use Skin Packs, and a setup wizard walks the player through adding SpecialSkin resource packs.
The mod is published for Fabric only, across the game versions 1.20.1 – 1.20.4, and it needs Fabric API. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source; the latest file is 1.3.0 for 1.20.4, dated 2023-12-19.
