PlayerNameHider

by Power114514

PlayerNameHider lets a client-side player hide their own name in the tab list, nametags and chat-related displays, so other players see a replacement instead.

What it does

Players who stream or record often want their username out of view. PlayerNameHider covers this on the client: once enabled, the player's own name is replaced in the tab list and above their character, and a toggle switches the hiding on or off without restarting the game. Because the mod runs only on the client, the view changes only for the player who installed it, while the server keeps the real name and every other player continues to see it normally.

The mod is built for Fabric and targets 1.21 and 1.21.1, with the 1.0.0 build for 1.21.1 as the latest release, published on 2024-08-11. Required dependency YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) provides its settings screen, and Mod Menu is optional for opening that screen from the mod list. The code is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and public links exist for the source and the issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Tablist name hiding

The player's name is swapped out in the tab list, so the hidden name does not show there while the mod is active.

  2. Nametag name hiding

The name above the player's own character is replaced, covering the nametag view in the game world.

  3. Toggle on and off

A toggle lets the player show their name again without removing the mod, switching hiding on and off at will.

  4. Client-only view

Only the local view is affected, so other players on the same server keep seeing the regular name.
