Priority
by aman037
Priority is a Fabric client mod that lets players assign a priority value from 1 to 9 to each hotbar slot, changing the order in which hotbar keys select slots.
What it does
Minecraft's default hotbar key handling is replaced by a priority system. Each of the nine hotbar slots gets a value from 1 to 9, and the lower value is checked first when a key is pressed. Pressing a hotbar key a second time moves on to the next slot with the same key, so a player can reach a slot that was passed over without changing the layout.
The priorities are set in the config screen, which shows sliders and input fields for slots 1 to 9. The defaults match vanilla, so slot 1 has priority 1 and slot 2 has priority 2, and the behavior is unchanged until values are edited. A warning appears at the bottom middle of the screen when the menu is closed with conflicting priorities, and the values have to be resolved before the settings apply.
The mod runs on the client alone, so only the player's game needs it. It is built for Fabric and requires Cloth Config API and Fabric API. Mod Menu is optional and provides a button on the main menu that opens the mods screen. Priority is released under the MIT License and is not open source, and it targets 26.1.2 with 1.1.0+mc26.1 as the latest Fabric file, with files published for 1.21 – 26.3.
Key features
Priority-based hotbar switching
Hotbar keys check slots in priority order, so items can be grouped in slots that are reached first.
Customizable slot priorities
Each of the nine hotbar slots can be assigned a priority value from 1 to 9 in the config screen.
Two-press slot cycling
Pressing the same hotbar key again moves to the next slot with that key, so passed-over slots remain reachable.
Conflict warning on close
A message at the bottom middle of the screen flags conflicting priorities when the config menu is closed.
