Plasmo Voice
by kpids
Players who want proximity voice chat on a server can use Plasmo Voice, which routes each speaker's audio to nearby listeners and adjusts it by distance.
What it does
Voice chat range is adjustable, so a server can set how far speech carries. Within that range, the audio is placed in the game world with the OpenAL sound engine, which gives 3D positioning, and stereo audio sources are supported. Volume changes smoothly as players move, rather than jumping at a cutoff.
Optional effects can be switched on. Sound occlusion muffles voices passing through blocks, and directional audio sources make a speaker quieter when they are not facing the listener. Noise reduction uses RNNoise. Compatibility with sound physics is provided through the pv-addon-soundphysics add-on, and the mod is required by 27 other mods, including Voiceless Survival and several pv-addon packages for groups, replays and sculk.
Plasmo Voice requires Fabric API on Fabric. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. Builds exist for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 36 release versions, 1.16.4 – 26.3, and the code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. Paper, Folia, Spigot, Purpur, Velocity and BungeeCord are also listed as server platforms.
Key features
Proximity voice chat
Nearby players hear each other, and the audible range can be set in the configuration.
3D audio positioning
Voices are placed in the game world through the OpenAL sound engine, so direction is audible.
Sound occlusion
An optional setting muffles voices that pass through blocks, so walls change how speech sounds.
Directional sources
An optional setting lowers the volume of a speaker who is not facing the listener.

Use cases
Roleplay servers
Servers where players talk in character can rely on distance-based speech instead of text chat alone.
Survival and adventure worlds
Players working together in a shared base can hear nearby teammates while moving around the map.
Who it’s for: Server owners who run a Paper, Folia, Fabric, Forge or NeoForge server and want in-game voice, and players who join those servers with a matching client.

What the author says
Paper, Folia, Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge servers are fully compatible with both Fabric and Forge clients. To use voice chat, players must install the client-side mod for Fabric, Forge or NeoForge. Players without the mod can still join the server and play as usual – they just won't have access to voice chat features.
