Pirate Radio
by SoniEx2
Pirate Radio is a Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 that simulates real FM interference, with pirate transmitters players craft and tune in the world.
What it does
Players craft a disposable pirate radio transmitter from a single board computer, wire and a powerbank, then load it with a storage card holding a text message and set its frequency. Placing the transmitter switches it on, and the fm command opens the receiver interface. An electronics trader spawns by default, while server owners can disable it and let players buy the parts manually.
The simulation is built around multiplayer, so many players can share the same interference. It is a fairly simplified but complete real-time FM radio model, using real FM simulation with some practical approximations. The speech is produced by the flite synthesizer compiled to WebAssembly, and the receiver interface is also rendered through WebAssembly. The mod is licensed under MIT AND CC-BY-4.0 and is not open source, but its source code is public. It requires Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin, and it is published for 1.21.1 only, with the latest Fabric file dated 2025-03-27.
Key features
Craftable pirate transmitter
A single board computer, wire and a powerbank combine into a disposable transmitter that carries one message.
Frequency tuning
A storage card loaded with a message is set to a frequency, so players can pick which signal their receiver catches.
Real-time interference
The FM model reproduces how stations interfere with each other, and the simulation runs on the client side.
Text-to-speech messages
Messages are spoken aloud through a speech synthesizer, so received broadcasts can be heard as voice.

How it compares
Analog is a server-side only Fabric mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, open source under the MIT License, so players join without installing it. Text To Speech TTS (Standalone) is a client required Fabric mod for 1.21.1 – 1.21.11 that is not open source, and the server can add it optionally. EZWireless is a client and server Fabric mod for 1.21.5 – 1.21.7 under All rights reserved, so it targets newer releases than Pirate Radio.
