Persistent Chat
by liqw
Persistent Chat keeps chat history between game sessions, so conversations, coordinates and messages from earlier play are still there after a player leaves and returns.
What it does
Chat messages are saved, and when a player rejoins a world or restarts Minecraft, the chat is restored as it was left. Messages sent while a player was offline can be read after logging in, which lets a player catch up on a conversation they missed. With the mod installed on a server as well, a player gets the full history on every join, and a player without the mod still gets the server's copy of the log.
The saving behaviour is configurable on both the client and the server side. Players can choose whether separate chat histories are kept per server or one history is shared across servers, and server admins decide which sorts of messages are stored. Persistent Chat requires Cloth Config API and Fabric API, and Mod Menu is optional for opening its settings in-game. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with its source code and issue tracker public, for Fabric builds covering 1.21.1 – 26.1.2.

How it compares
Better Chat History is a Fabric mod for client-side use only, released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, not open source, and published for 26.2. NiChat is also client-side only, open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and covers 1.21.6 – 26.3. Server Chat Log History works on the server alone, is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and covers 1.20 – 1.21.6. Persistent Chat sits between these options: it works with the client alone or with the server added.
