Particle Moths
Particle Moths is a client-side decoration mod that adds moths drifting around light sources, rendered with particles rather than entities.
What it does
Moths appear around torches, redstone torches, soul torches and redstone lamps, and they can be set to glow. Spawn behavior is configurable: a 100 block spawn probability sets how far around a light source moths can appear, and the moth count spawn probability is set to 50 by default. Players can also choose to spawn moths only near lit blocks.
Movement is calculated for each axis separately, so the speed of a moth can be tuned along each direction. The settings screen gives players close to full control over the look of the effect. Fabric API is required, and the config screen is reached through Mod Menu.
The mod runs on Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt. Builds cover 1.18.2 – 1.21.5 across 11 release versions, and the latest files target 1.21.5. Only the client needs it, and the code is open source under the MIT License, with public source code and an issue tracker.

Use cases
Lit builds and bases
Players decorating a base with torches and lamps can use moths to add motion to those lit areas.
Atmospheric screenshots
Moths drifting around light sources can add life to scenes built for screenshots or videos.
Who it’s for: Players who want a visual decoration effect around light sources, without adding entities to the world. The mod is client-side, so it can be joined on any server without it.
How it compares
Smooth Particles is a Fabric-only client-side particle library under the MIT License, covering 1.19.1 – 1.21, and it is open source. Lampicus is for Forge and NeoForge, is open source under the MIT License and runs with both client and server for 1.18.2 – 1.21.1, so a server must install it as well.
