Natural Hungering
by q4niel
Natural Hungering changes how hunger drains, so the food bar behaves more like a slow, continuous resource than a series of sharp drops.
What it does
Exhaustion-based hunger values are divided by 100, which slows how quickly the food bar falls during normal play. Hunger also accumulates continually, including while the player stands still, rather than only during movement or actions. The mod is built around the idea of what a hunger bar should have been, with its values reworked to match that goal.
Installation needs Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin on Fabric for 1.21 – 1.21.5, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need the mod. Natural Hungering is published for 1.21.5 with a 1.0.0 file dated 2025-04-19, and it is released under a custom license that is not open source. Source code and an issue tracker are linked from the project.
Key features
Divided exhaustion values
Exhaustion hunger values are divided by 100, so food drains far more gently than in vanilla.
Continuous hunger drain
Hunger accumulates steadily even while the player is stationary, not only while moving or acting.
Reworked hunger bar
The food bar is changed to follow a different idea of how hunger should behave over time.

Use cases
Slower survival pacing
Players who find vanilla hunger too quick to manage can play longer between meals with the reduced exhaustion values.
Multiplayer servers
Server owners who want a uniform hunger rate can install the mod on the server and on each player's client.
Who it’s for: Players who want a slower food bar and server owners who prefer one hunger rate for every player on the server. Installation on both sides is required for the rules to apply consistently.
How it compares
Hungerless is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and is published for 1.21.5 only; either side can run it, and neither needs it. Harder Hunger is not open source, licensed CC0 1.0 Universal, runs on client and server and is published for 1.18.2 – 1.20.4. HealthNFoodTweaker is open source under the MIT License and runs on the server side only, so players join without installing it. Natural Hungering is client and server and covers 1.21 – 1.21.5.
