Modulation
by evanbones
Modulation gathers a set of quality-of-life tweaks into one configurable mod, covering leaves, fences, walls, clouds and inventory icons.
What it does
Modulation lets players walk through leaf blocks, with movement drag set by base drag and max drag options. Passable behavior can be turned on or off per leaf type, including pale oak, tinted leaves, needles and cherry leaves. Leaf rustling sounds and cherry petal particles are added as well, and entities pass through leaves. An optional Vanilla Backport integration is available for the leaf changes.
Wall blocks connect visually to adjacent wood fences, nether fences, iron bars and glass panes, and the connection rule can be disabled individually. The fence and wall pane logic is ported from BetterWalls, and a honeycomb overlay marks waxed copper block items in the inventory. The cloud layer is pushed out to the horizon instead of a fixed radius, following the Extended Clouds approach. Several bugs and performance problems in base Minecraft are also addressed by Modulation.
The mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. Its code is open source under the MIT License. Installation needs YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL), and Cloth Config API, Figura and Reconnectible Chains are optional. Modulation runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it.
Key features
Passable leaves
Leaf blocks can be walked through, and entities pass through them, with drag values set in the config.
Per-type leaf control
Passable behavior is set separately for each leaf type, so only chosen leaves change.
Connected walls and fences
Fences, walls, iron bars and glass panes join visually with neighboring blocks, and each connection can be disabled.
Cloud horizon
The cloud layer extends to the horizon rather than stopping at a fixed radius.

How it compares
Better Walls is server-side only, open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only, and covers Fabric and Quilt for 1.20 – 26.2, so it does not cover Forge or NeoForge. Wallfences is client and server, released under the MIT License, and covers Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 1.21.4, but is not open source. Client Tweaks is client-side only and covers 1.12.2 – 26.3 on all three loaders, with All rights reserved as its license.
