Modopedia

by Favouriteless

Modopedia is a Library mod for Fabric and NeoForge that turns in-game guidebooks into documentation driven by data resource packs, for 1.21.1.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.1

What it does

Guidebooks are described in JSON, a format that supports circular dependencies and several categories per entry, so a book can link its pages to one another without duplicating content. Textures can be customised, including the number of pages and their dimensions, and the author controls most of how the book renders. Error handling reports problems at the level of each component, so a broken entry shows its own message instead of stopping the whole book.

Modopedia runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it, along with Fabric API and Forge Config API Port. It is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric and NeoForge, with the 1.1.11 file for 1.21.1 dated 2026-05-05. Source code, an issue tracker and a wiki are linked from the project.

Key features

  1. Data-driven guidebooks

Book content is defined in resource packs, so a modpack can add or replace guidebooks without changing code.

  2. Custom page templates

Several templates can be placed on a single page, and textures and page dimensions can be set per book.

  3. Study key search

A Study key lets players jump to the page that documents a specific item, after some extra setup.

  4. Per-entry error reporting

Problems are reported for each component, which makes it possible to fix one entry without removing the rest of a book.

Use cases

Modpack documentation

Modpack authors can ship guidebooks that explain their own mods, recipes and progression inside the game.

Resource pack authors

Creators who want their own in-game manuals can write them as JSON and distribute them through resource packs.

Who it’s for: Modpack creators and resource pack authors who want guidebooks that are defined in data rather than code. Server owners who run a modpack also benefit, since the guidebooks reach every player on the server.
