Modonomicon
by klikli-dev
With Modonomicon, players open in-game guidebooks whose books are defined entirely by datapacks, so modpacks and mods can add their own.
What it does
Books are created through datapacks, so both modpacks and other mods can add guidebooks without code changes. Entries are arranged in a two-dimensional view similar to a quest or advancement screen, and each entry can be shown or hidden by an extensible condition system. Content is written in an extended text syntax and can use multiblock displays in the style of Patchouli.
The library is aimed at mod developers who want a documentation system they can extend. Page types cover text, recipes, images and items, and mods can register new page kinds that add recipe pages for their own crafting methods. Just Enough Items (JEI) is optional and adds recipe lookup where it is installed.
Modonomicon runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 23 release versions, 1.18.2 – 26.3. It is not open source, and its code is under the MIT License while its assets are under CC-BY-4.0. Public links for source code, an issue tracker and a wiki are available.
Key features
Datapack-defined books
Guidebooks are described in datapacks, so new books need no Java code and can be added by any pack.
Two-dimensional entry view
Entries sit on a navigable 2D board, similar to a quest or advancement layout.
Multiblock displays
Multiblocks can be shown in the book in the manner of Patchouli, but they are defined through data.
Extensible visibility conditions
A condition system controls when entries become visible, and mods can add new condition types.
Styled page text
Page text uses an extended text syntax with support for varied page types.

Use cases
Modpack guides
Pack authors can add a book that explains custom items, machines and progression to players.
Mod documentation
Mods that add several systems can document them in one book with linked entries.
Who it’s for: Mod developers who want a data-driven documentation system, and modpack makers who need in-game guides. Players use the resulting books.
How it compares
Patchouli is the closest alternative: it runs on client and server under CC-BY-NC-SA-3.0 and is not open source, with files for 1.12.2 – 26.1.2 across Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Markdown Manual is open source under the MIT License, with files for 1.18.2 – 1.21.11 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. GBLib is Fabric-only, for 1.20.2, and carries the All rights reserved license.
