MendingPriority

by Zolloww

MendingPriority lets a player pick which armor piece receives Mending repairs from experience, so the enchantment targets one slot instead of a random one.

FabricServer-side onlyAll rights reserved1.21

What it does

Vanilla Mending spreads its repairs across all equipped armor at random, which can leave a chosen piece untouched. MendingPriority adds a priority setting: a player cycles through Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings and Boots, and experience repairs the selected piece first. The Vanilla option keeps the original random behavior and remains the default.

The selection is made with the L key. Each press moves to the next target, and a short message appears in the action bar showing the current target, such as Repair Helmet. The setting applies to the player who chose it, so several players on one server can each keep their own priority.

The mod runs on Fabric and needs Fabric API. It is server-side only, so players join without installing it and the server alone runs it. It targets Minecraft 1.21 only, with a single Fabric file, 1.0.0 for 1.21, published on 2026-03-16. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Priority repair target

Mending experience goes to the chosen armor piece first, instead of being spread at random over worn armor.

  2. Key-based selection

Pressing L cycles the target between Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, Boots and Vanilla without opening a menu.

  3. Action bar feedback

A brief action bar message names the current target each time it changes, so the setting is visible while playing.

  4. Vanilla default

The Vanilla setting keeps the normal random Mending behavior, which is also the starting value.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Players who enchant gear with Mending and want control over which armor piece it repairs. Server owners who want the feature on a multiplayer world need only the server install, because clients run without the mod.

Questions

Yes. Fabric API is required, and the mod must be installed on Fabric Loader for Minecraft 1.21.

What happens if the target piece is fully repaired?

The source does not describe that case, so the behavior is not stated here.

What the author says

Tired of Mending randomly repairing the wrong armor piece? This mod lets you set a priority target. Each time you press L, a short message appears in your actionbar showing the current target, like Repair Target: Helmet.
