With McQoy installed, configuration files written for Kaleido can be edited in-game through generated YACL or Cloth screens, with no extra setup.

What it does

McQoy generates configuration screens automatically for mods that store their settings in Kaleido-based .toml files. Some mods built on Kaleido include Surveyor and Crunchy Crunchy. Their files are readable, but normally they cannot be changed in the game. When McQoy is present, the same settings appear as editable screens. A config is picked up when its folder or filename matches the mod ID of the owning mod, which is the only setup the config owner needs to check.

The mod depends on Mod Menu and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL), and it uses Cloth where that library is the available option. Installation is a drop-in step: adding McQoy on a compatible version is enough for screens to appear. The mod is client-side only, so servers do not need it, and no hard dependency is imposed on the mods that it configures. McQoy is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with files for 26.1.2 on Fabric, 1.20.1 on Forge and 1.21.11 on NeoForge. Its license is custom and the project is not open source, though its source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Generated config screens

Settings from Kaleido-based .toml files are turned into editable screens without manual work.

  2. Folder and filename matching

A config is detected when its folder or filename matches the mod ID of the owning mod.

  3. Drop-in installation

Once the mod is added, the screens appear for any compatible Kaleido config found on the client.

  4. Quilt Config foundation

Settings are read through annotation-based metadata from Quilt Config, a library that does not depend on Quilt or Minecraft.

Use cases

Editing Surveyor settings in-game

Players who want to change Surveyor's options can do so from a screen instead of opening the .toml file by hand.

Who it’s for: Players who use mods configured through Kaleido and want to change those settings inside the game, rather than editing text files.

Questions

Does McQoy need Mod Menu or YACL?

Yes. Mod Menu and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) are both required dependencies, so they must be installed alongside McQoy.

Does McQoy have to be installed on servers?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Which loader should be used with McQoy?

McQoy is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. The latest Fabric file targets 26.1.2, the latest Forge file targets 1.20.1 and the latest NeoForge file targets 1.21.11.

In the catalog

McQoy is one of 3,514 Library mods on ModsFinder, and one of 2,348 Library mods for Fabric. 15,189 mods support Minecraft 26.1.2.

What the author says

McQoy is a simple mod that automatically generates YACL (or Cloth) configuration screens for mods using Kaleido. Some mods use Kaleido to provide a.toml configuration - like our own Surveyor, or Crunchy Crunchy, or PicoHUD.
