Magnum Torch

by Fuzs

With Magnum Torch, a torch placed in the right spot stops hostile and passive mobs from spawning across a wide area around a base.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMozilla Public License 2.0Open source1.18.2 – 26.3

What it does

Magnum Torch adds three torches that block natural mob spawns over a large volume around them. The kind of torch crafted sets which mobs are blocked: the diamond version covers monsters such as zombies, skeletons, creepers, spiders and phantoms, the amethyst version covers cave and water mobs such as bats, squids, axolotls and fish, and the emerald version handles the remaining category. Only natural spawns are affected, so spawners and raids keep working. Mobs already present when a torch is placed are not removed.

Each torch can be tuned in the configuration. The range, the shape of the blocked area (cuboid, cylinder or ellipsoid), a whitelist or blacklist of individual mobs and the blocked mob category are all adjustable. A server owner can therefore make one torch stop only phantom spawns and another stop only wandering traders. The item tooltip lists the active values. Fabric API, Forge Config API Port and Puzzles Lib are required, and Forge Config Screens is optional. Installation covers the server and each player's game. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 25 release versions, 1.18.2 – 26.3, and is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.

Key features

  1. Three torch types

Diamond, amethyst and emerald torches are crafted separately, and each one blocks a different group of mobs.

  2. Natural spawns only

Only natural spawning is prevented, so spawners and raid mobs still appear as normal.

  3. Adjustable shape and range

Each torch can use a cuboid, cylinder or ellipsoid area, with a configurable effective range.

  4. Mob whitelist and blacklist

Individual mobs can be allowed or blocked per torch, and the blocked category can be set to monster, water, cave or passive.

  5. Tooltip information

The item tooltip shows the important variables of each torch, so the settings are visible in the inventory.

What the author says

Magnum Torch adds three kinds of very powerful torches that prevent mobs from spawning in a huge area. Only natural spawns will be prevented, so e.g. spawners and raids still work as they should. The type of magnum torch you craft defines what kind of mobs will be prevented from spawning. Only new mobs are prevented…
