LibTooltips

by wdiscute

LibTooltips is a Forge and NeoForge library for adding tooltips to items, driven by translation keys.

ForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 26.3

What it does

Developers use LibTooltips to attach tooltip text to items through a small API, with the text read from translation keys. Tag processing gives some control over specific parts of a tooltip, and the text can change dynamically and take color. Permanent tooltips can also be added to items. The library is needed by Starcatcher's Delight - Let's Do: Kaleidoscope edition and is client-side only, so servers run without it. Builds exist for 1.20.1 – 26.3, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Translation-key tooltips

Tooltip lines are defined by translation keys, so text can be localized without code changes.

  2. Dynamic text and color

Tooltip text can change at runtime and include color formatting.

  3. Permanent item tooltips

Items can carry tooltips that stay visible without a held key or extra condition.

Questions

Which loader should be used for LibTooltips?

Forge and NeoForge are the loaders with files. Forge builds cover 1.20.1, and NeoForge builds cover 1.21.1 and later.

Does LibTooltips need to be installed on the server?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.
