LambdaControls
by LambdAurora
With LambdaControls installed, a controller or touchscreen can drive the game, and the camera and reach features from Bedrock Edition become available on Java.
What it does
LambdaControls adds controller support to Minecraft Java Edition, along with keyboard controls for looking around, and touchscreen input that the author marks as experimental and buggy. Several Bedrock Edition behaviors are reproduced, including a toggleable on-screen button indicator, vertical reach-around and placing blocks on the front face of a block. Flying can be set to drift, and that option is toggleable as well.
The mod is client-side only, so only the client needs it and a server can run without it. It targets Fabric and Quilt, with files for 1.16.2 – 1.18 and the latest build, 1.7.1+1.17, marked for 1.18 and dated 2021-06-23. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the project publishes a source code repository, an issue tracker and a wiki.
Key features
Controller support
A gamepad can move the player, look around and interact with the world in place of the keyboard and mouse.
Bedrock-style reach-around
Vertical reach-around and front block placing follow the Bedrock Edition approach, and the author advises care with front placement.
Toggleable button indicator
An on-screen indicator for button prompts can be shown or hidden, matching the Bedrock Edition interface.
Experimental touchscreen input
Touchscreen support is included but marked experimental and buggy by the author, so results may vary on touch devices.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Playing with a gamepad
Players who prefer a controller on a PC can use the mod to navigate and play without a keyboard.
Bedrock-style building
Players used to Bedrock Edition controls can keep familiar reach and placement behavior on Java.
Who it’s for: The mod suits players who want controller or Bedrock-style controls on Minecraft Java Edition with Fabric or Quilt, and players who use a touchscreen, though that input remains experimental.
