ItemBeam

by IsoCat

Dropped items in view can be marked with vertical colored beams that ItemBeam picks from matching item tooltip keywords, so ItemBeam shows loot from a distance.

What it does

ItemBeam reads each dropped item's tooltip, which includes its name, description, enchantments and text from other installed mods, and checks it against keyword rules set by the player. When a rule matches, the item receives a beacon-style beam. Detection runs as soon as an item enters view range, so a new drop is marked right away.

Each rule sets its own color in six-digit hex format (RRGGBB), so the number of usable colors is not limited to a preset list. Beams can use animated textures and an opacity from 0 to 100 percent, which lets the player balance visibility against how much the beam covers the scene. Rules are checked in order, and the first matching rule chooses the color.

ItemBeam is released under the MIT License and is not open source. It runs only on the client, and the files are published for Fabric, covering 1.21.4 – 1.21.11 with 1.0.0 for 1.21.11 as the latest build. Snapshot builds are not listed for this mod.

Key features

  1. Tooltip keyword scanning

Keywords typed into rules are matched against the full tooltip of every dropped item, including modded content.

  2. Vertical colored beams

Dropped items that match a rule are marked by a tall light beam rising from where the item lies.

  3. Animated, adjustable beams

Beams use animated textures that move smoothly, and each rule has its own opacity setting from 0 to 100 percent.

  4. Ordered color rules

Rules are processed top to bottom, and the first rule that matches an item sets its beam color.
