LootLight

by alatic.

Dropped items can be hard to spot in caves after a messy fight, and LootLight draws a light beam above each loot spot so the pile stands out from the ground.

What it does

LootLight is a Fabric mod by alatic that renders a vertical beam above dropped items and a soft glow on the ground beneath them. Beams fade with distance, so nearby loot stays readable without the view becoming noisy. Stacks of the same item that land in one spot are grouped under a single beam instead of ten identical beams standing on top of each other. Beams stop at ceilings rather than clipping through the roof.

The mod is client-side only: only the player's client needs it, and servers run without it. It requires Fabric API, which must be installed alongside it. LootLight is published for Fabric alone, with builds for 1.21.4, 1.21.11 and 26.2; the latest file, 1.0.0 for 26.2, was released on 2026-07-26. The code is not open source; it is released under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Loot beams

A vertical beam rises above each dropped item, with an optional particle style and a beam style option for the look.

  2. Ground glow

A soft glow appears on the ground underneath the drop, marking the spot from a distance.

  3. Grouped stacks

Identical items dropped in one place share one beam, so a crowded pile reads as a single marker.

  4. Toggle and reload

Effects can be switched on or off, and the configuration reloads without restarting the game, with gradient and animation settings for the beam colour.

Use cases

Cave and battle clean-up

After a fight in a dark cave, the beams show where drops landed, so players can collect them without walking the area twice.

Crowded loot piles

When many items fall in one spot, the grouped beam keeps the pile readable instead of hiding it under stacked markers.

Who it’s for: Players who want dropped loot easier to spot on their own screen. Because the mod is client-side only, it suits single-player worlds and any server that allows client-side visual mods.

Questions

Does LootLight need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is required, so it must be installed next to LootLight on Fabric.

Does a server need LootLight installed?

No. The mod is client-side only, so servers run without it and players can join with it alone.

Can the beam effects be tuned?

Yes. Effects can be toggled on or off, and settings such as maxBeamsPerFrame and maxRenderDistance can be adjusted in the configuration if the frame rate drops with a large number of items.

What the author says

Dropped items are easy to miss, especially in caves or after a messy fight. LootLight adds a light beam above ground loot so you can actually spot it. Client-side only — install it on your game, no server mod needed.
