Gear Finder

by IsoCat

Gear Finder is a Fabric client mod that highlights matching items in open inventory menus, so a player can spot specific gear at a glance.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT License1.21.11 – 26.2

What it does

Gear Finder scans the items in whatever menu is open, including their NBT tooltip data, and marks the slots that match the filters a player has set. Each match gets a distinct 2-pixel colored border drawn around its slot. The mod was inspired by item searching on Minecraft servers and is meant for finding loot quickly during play.

Filters are organized into up to 20 separate finder containers, so different searches can be kept apart. Each container accepts up to 8 specific words or phrases, and only items whose data matches an active phrase in that container are highlighted. Each container can be assigned its own HEX color code, and a GUI lets the player test HEX codes before choosing one.

The mod runs on the client alone, so only the player needs it and servers do not. It is published for Fabric and requires Fabric API. Files cover 1.21.11 and 26.2, with 1.0.0 for 26.2 as the latest release, and the code is released under the MIT License, though the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Universal inventory scanning

Every item in an open menu is checked against the active filters, including the data shown in its tooltip.

  2. Custom highlight borders

Matching slots receive a 2-pixel colored border, so results stand out in crowded inventories and chests.

  3. Multiple filter containers

Up to 20 independent containers let a player keep different searches for different kinds of loot.

  4. Precision filtering

Each container takes up to 8 words or phrases, and only items matching an active phrase are highlighted.

  5. Custom HEX colors

Every container can use its own HEX color, and a test GUI previews colors before they are applied.

  6. Container controls

Dedicated buttons toggle a container on or off or delete it, without disturbing the other active filters.
