Inventory Sorting
by kyrptonaught
Inventory Sorting puts a sort action on containers, from a double-click on an empty slot or a chat command, and it works without any client mod.
What it does
Sorting is performed by the server, so a player on a vanilla client can trigger it with a double-click on an empty slot or with the /invsort sort and /invsort sortme commands. Server owners control where sorting is enabled and how it behaves, and can hide UI elements for particular containers. The mod covers all inventories, including those added by other mods.
Only the server has to run the mod; players may leave it out and still sort. Fabric and NeoForge are supported, with files for 1.19 – 26.3. The latest Fabric and NeoForge files are 3.0.1 for 26.3, published 2026-09-16. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source. Its required dependencies are Cloth Config API and Fabric API, while Mod Menu is optional and gives easier access to the configuration screen.
Key features
Double-click sorting
Double-clicking an empty slot sorts the container without any client-side installation.
Chat commands
The /invsort sort and /invsort sortme commands sort the open inventory or the player's own inventory.
Container-level control
Sorting can be enabled or disabled per container, and individual UI elements can be hidden for specific inventories.
Mod inventory support
Inventories added by other mods are sortable, so the feature is not limited to vanilla chests.

Every configuration option is documented on the project wiki, and the mod ships in several languages.

Use cases
Modpacks and multiplayer servers
Server owners can add sorting to a modpack without requiring each player to install anything extra.
Single-player worlds
Minecraft runs an integrated server in single-player, so the mod works there as well.
Who it’s for: Server owners, modpack authors and players who want sorting on a vanilla client. Those who need client-side configuration features install Cloth Config API and can add Mod Menu for easier access.

What the author says
Designed to run server-side, it works out of the box, even with vanilla clients, making it perfect for modpacks, multiplayer servers, and anyone who wants frictionless sorting without needing client-side mods. It also works perfectly in single-player, since Minecraft runs an integrated server behind the scenes.
