Toni's Immersive Lanterns

by Txni

With Toni's Immersive Lanterns, a crafted lantern can hang from the Accessories belt slot and light the area around the player while it swings.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient and serverCustom license1.20 – 1.21.1

What it does

Crouch and right-click with a lantern to equip it into an Accessories slot. The equipped lantern dangles from the belt, emits light around the player and swings like a pendulum when the player moves in third person. Soul Lantern and other lantern types keep their own light colors, so an equipped Soul Lantern under a shader pack that supports custom dynamic lighting shows blue light.

The mod is the first in its group to offer full compatibility with Iris shader packs that define their own dynamic lighting, according to its description. It requires Accessories, Fabric API, Sodium Dynamic Lights and TxniLib, so those must be installed next to it. Builds cover 1.20 – 1.21.1 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and the code is covered by a custom license that is not open source.

Key features

  1. Equippable lanterns

A crafted lantern goes into an Accessories slot, freeing the offhand for a shield or torch.

  2. Dynamic lighting

An equipped lantern lights the nearby blocks and entities as the player walks around.

  3. Swinging physics

The lantern hangs on a simulated pendulum that reacts to the player's movement in third person.

  4. Shader light colors

Each lantern type passes its own color to shader packs that support custom dynamic lighting.
