Sodium Options API

by Txni

Sodium Options API gives mod authors three events for adding pages, option groups and single options to the Sodium and Embeddium settings screens across loaders.

What it does

Authors register their settings through events in the toni.sodiumoptionsapi.api package. One event runs once when the options GUI is constructed and can add whole pages. A second runs for each option page, which suits adding a group of toggles to an existing tab such as performance. A third runs for each option group, and a developer can use it to place one option inside a group that already exists or to alter the vanilla groups. The same event code is meant to work on Forge with Embeddium, on Fabric with Sodium 0.5 for 1.20.1, and on Fabric and NeoForge with Sodium 0.6 for 1.21.1.

The project descends from the Embeddium category system and its options events, but most of the code was rewritten to target upstream Sodium. For players it replaces the category menu of Reese's Sodium Options with one that has drop-down support. That change is applied through a mixin, so Reese's Sodium Options must be installed alongside it. Mods that do not use the API but edit Sodium options directly also show the new menu. Embeddium, Fabric API and Sodium are required dependencies.

Key features

  1. Whole-page events

A single event runs when the options GUI is built, letting an addon add an entire settings page.

  2. Per-page events

A second event runs for each option page, so toggles can be added to an existing tab such as performance.

  3. Per-group events

A third event runs for each option group, to insert one option into a group or modify the vanilla ones.

  4. Improved category menu

With Reese's Sodium Options installed, the category menu gains drop-down support that makes navigation easier.
