Hwyla
Hwyla shows the block under the crosshair in a tooltip, with details such as its name, mod source and state, and it can be used for block lookups in the world.
What it does
The tooltip displays information about the block or entity the player is looking at, and it is aimed at improving the in-game interface rather than changing gameplay. Hwyla is a fork of an earlier mod, and the author states that plugins and addons made for the official mod work with this fork. Installation needs Fabric API on Fabric, and the mod is published for Fabric and Forge across 21 release versions, 1.10.2 – 1.16.5.
Hwyla works on either side, and neither the client nor the server needs it. Builds exist for 1.16.5 as the latest file on each loader, and snapshot builds are also published. The code is not open source; it is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 license, and the source code and issue tracker are public.

Recipe lookup in the item viewer
By default Numpad 3 and Numpad 4 open the recipe of a looked-at block in an item viewer, which must be installed for this to work.
Tooltip formatting
Colors and text formatting of the tooltip can be changed in-game through the options screen.
Handler diagnostics
The /dumphandlers command writes a text file listing every registered tooltip handler and the types it applies to.
Narrator support
The tooltip can be read aloud with the system text-to-speech library, and the item display can be turned off when it is redundant.

How it compares
Hwyala is a Forge-only option for 1.12.2 with the same environment and license, and it is not open source. WTHIT covers Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.16.2 – 26.2, and Jade covers Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.16.4 – 26.3; both work on either side, and neither needs it, and both are not open source under the same license.
