HitColor Plus
by Donyka
With HitColor Plus, entities flash a configurable color when struck, giving combat clearer visual feedback on the client.
What it does
HitColor Plus changes the color an entity shows when it takes damage. The mod separates player characters from other mobs, so each group can have its own hit color, and the opacity of the effect can be adjusted. Hit colors appear on the client only, and the mod leaves the server and game logic untouched.
The mod supports Minecraft versions 1.16.5 – 26.2 on Fabric, with files covering 12 release versions, and the latest file for 26.2 is dated 2026-06-28. Cloth Config API provides the settings screen, and Mod Menu opens it from the mod list. Both must be installed alongside HitColor Plus. Source code is public, and the project is open source under the MIT License.
Key features
Custom hit colors
Entities can flash a chosen color when they are hit, replacing the default red damage tint.
Separate colors for players and mobs
Player characters and other mobs can each be given their own hit color, so the two are distinct in a fight.
Adjustable opacity
The strength of the hit color can be turned up or down, from a faint tint to a solid flash.
Smooth visual feedback
The hit color fades in a smooth transition rather than switching on and off abruptly.

Use cases
PvP combat
Players in player-versus-player fights can read hits more quickly when each side has its own color.
Mob fights
Hits on regular mobs stand out from player hits, which helps when several enemies are on screen.
Who it’s for: Players who want clearer hit feedback in combat, and players on Fabric who run modded clients. Because the mod is client-side only, servers need nothing installed.
How it compares
HitColor X is a Fabric mod for 1.21.11 – 26.2, client-side only and released under the MIT License. HitColor Mod - NEW is also client-side only, but covers 1.19.2 – 1.21.11 and is under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Combat Feedback runs on Fabric for 1.20.1 – 26.2 and is under All rights reserved, and it needs a client install while a server may add it for extra features.
