Grindy Elytras
by Fyoncle
Grindy Elytras changes how the Elytra is obtained: it is no longer found in End Cities, and crafting it needs an Elytra Fragment.
What it does
The mod replaces the Elytra in End Cities with an Elytra Fragment, and the Elytra's crafting recipe now requires that fragment. Only End Cities generated after the mod is installed are affected, so worlds with cities already generated keep their existing loot. The mod is a Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.14 – 1.21.5 and needs Fabric API to run.
The author describes the project as an alternative to Harder Elytras, which was supported only as a datapack for 1.20.1 and was considered destructive. Grindy Elytras was written as a separate interpretation, with help from Cassian on the code. The Elytra Fragment texture was made by Shizotoaster.
A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. The license is custom and the code is not open source; public links exist for the source code and the issue tracker.
Key features
Harder Elytra acquisition
End Cities no longer hand out a finished Elytra, which makes the item harder to obtain in survival.
Elytra Fragment crafting
The Elytra's crafting recipe requires an Elytra Fragment, adding a step before the flight item can be made.
New End Cities only
Existing End Cities keep their loot, and only cities generated after installation are changed.
Fragment texture credit
The Elytra Fragment texture was made by Shizotoaster, and the author thanks Cassian for help with the code.

Use cases
Survival progression
Servers that want flight to come later in a run can use the mod so players must find or make the fragment first.
Who it’s for: Players and server owners who want the Elytra to be harder to get in survival. Because the change applies only to newly generated End Cities, it suits new worlds more than long-running ones.

What the author says
A mod that replaces Elytras in the End Cities with Elytra Fragment which is required for Elytra's crafting recipe that this mod adds. This mod was inspired by the Harder Elytras mod, since only datapack version of it supported 1.20.1 and it was very destructive, I decided to make my own interpretation of it.
