Gravity Force

by Mrbysco

Gravity Force makes blocks without support fall, so builds need stable footing and a placed block can drop when its neighbors cannot hold it.

What it does

Gravity Force checks the blocks around each block to decide whether it stays in place. Stability depends on the block type: planks grip more strongly than stone, so a bridge built from planks needs fewer supports than one built from stone. Blocks left unsupported at a ledge can give way, and a block can change into another type, such as stone turning into cobblestone, once it begins to fall. Only blocks are affected, so traveling and the player's own movement are not changed.

The mod is aimed at a semi-realistic treatment of gravity, and it adds a challenge to building and exploration. Its settings can be changed through a datapack, which allows a server owner to build a custom stability system, and a config option can pause gravity updates while a world loads so that loading runs more smoothly. Gravity Force runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for Forge only, for Minecraft 1.18.2, and the latest file is 0.4.4, released on 2023-02-21.

Key features

  1. Block stability by type

Each block type has its own grip strength, which determines how far a block can extend from its support.

  2. Unsupported blocks give way

Blocks without enough support can drop, and a block that starts to fall can turn into a different block type.

  3. Slide and water behavior

Blocks can slide until they reach a flat area, and water makes surfaces slippery and wet, which changes how far they slide.

  4. Datapack customization

The stability rules can be changed through a datapack to build a custom system for a world.

Use cases

Challenging builds

Players who want an added challenge can plan bridges, towers and ledges around the stability of each material.

Who it’s for: Players who want building to be harder and more deliberate, and server owners who want to set their own rules for block stability through a datapack.
