Forgified Fabric API

by Sinytra

Forgified Fabric API lets NeoForge mods use the hooks and events that Fabric API provides, so a developer can write against one shared library for both loaders.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverApache License 2.0Open source1.20.1 – 26.2

What it does

The library ports the Fabric API surface to NeoForge and tracks the upstream repository, so its releases follow the Fabric code. Its main purpose is to expose functionality that is useful but hard to reach from a mod, including particles, biomes and dimensions. It also supplies events, hooks and APIs that help separate mods work together.

It is a port, not an abstraction layer. Code that depends on loader-specific behaviour still has to be written for each platform, and this library only covers the shared Fabric API calls. It is a required dependency for mods that were built on Fabric API, including Continuity, Sinytra Connector and BetterGrassify. Builds exist for Forge and NeoForge across the 1.20.1 and 26.2 game versions, licensed under the Apache License 2.0 and published as open source.

Key features

  1. Shared hooks and events

Events and hooks from Fabric API are available on NeoForge, so a mod can use the same calls on both loaders.

  2. Access to hard-to-reach features

Particles, biomes and dimensions are exposed through the API, which many mods need but otherwise cannot reach.

  3. Rendering API

An advanced rendering API is included, built for compatibility with optimization and graphics overhaul mods.

  4. Regular upstream updates

The port is kept up to date with the upstream Fabric API repository, so new releases track the original code.

  5. Public project resources

The source code, issue tracker and wiki are public, so users can report problems and read documentation.

Use cases

Cross-loader mod development

A developer targeting both Forge and NeoForge can call Fabric API methods on each loader and keep most logic identical.

Running Fabric-based mods on NeoForge

Mods that depend on Fabric API can run on NeoForge once this library is installed, provided they have a NeoForge build.

Who it’s for: Mod developers who want to write against Fabric API on NeoForge, and players who install mods that require it. The library is used by a large group of dependent mods.

Questions

Does a NeoForge mod that uses Fabric API need this library?

Yes. Mods that call Fabric API classes on NeoForge need this library installed, because it supplies the NeoForge implementation of those calls.

Does this library replace loader-specific code?

No. It is not an abstraction layer, so code that depends on loader-specific behaviour still has to be handled separately for each platform.

Which game versions have files?

Seven release versions have files: 1.20.1, 1.21, 1.21.1, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2. The newest NeoForge file targets 1.21.1, while the newest Forge file targets 1.20.1.

In the catalog

Forgified Fabric API is one of 3,514 Library mods on ModsFinder, and one of 1,576 Library mods for Forge. 13,894 mods support Minecraft 26.2.
