EnvironmentZ

by Globox1997

With EnvironmentZ installed, temperature begins to affect the player in hot and cold biomes, and the player must manage it with armor, fire and heated stones.

FabricClient and serverGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.19.2 – 1.21.1

What it does

Standing in a cold biome or at temperatures around 0°C (32F) causes the player to start freezing unless the player is protected against the cold. In a hot biome, heat becomes the threat: wearing armor or other protection can make it worse, so the player must remove armor or protect against the heat another way. Warming up at a campfire or in a sheltered spot is the basic response to cold.

Heated stones can be carried to keep the player warm, and they are made by cutting stone in a stonecutter. Cold protection comes from crafting leather or wolf armor, or from giving armor a coat of fur from a polar bear. In earlier releases, that coating step happens at a smithing table instead. Cloth Config API, Fabric API and Satin API are required, and the mod is published only for Fabric, with no Forge version planned.

Servers that run it need every player to install it too. The code is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and files cover 1.19.2, 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 2.1.1+1.21.1 for 1.21.1 as the latest build.

Key features

  1. Cold damage

Temperatures around 0°C or below make the player freeze unless cold protection is worn or a warm source is near.

  2. Heat management

In hot biomes, armor can add to the heat, so the player has to take it off or protect against heat another way.

  3. Heated stones

Stones cut in a stonecutter can be carried as a portable heat source to warm the player up.

  4. Insulated armor

Leather or wolf armor, and armor given a fur layer from a polar bear, provide cold protection.

Use cases

Survival with harsh climates

Players exploring snowy and desert biomes have to plan for temperature, not only for hostile mobs and food.

Multiplayer servers

Server owners who want weather-like hazards in biomes can run the mod on the server, with every player installing it too.

Who it’s for: Players who want biome temperature to matter in survival, and server owners running Fabric who want the same rules for everyone on the server.

Questions

Which dependencies does EnvironmentZ need?

Cloth Config API, Fabric API and Satin API are required. All three must be installed next to EnvironmentZ on Fabric.

Does a server need EnvironmentZ installed?

Yes. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

How is armor insulated in older versions?

In versions before the current ones, armor is insulated at a smithing table rather than by crafting it directly with fur.

What the author says

EnvironmentZ adds harsh environment behaviors to Minecraft so keep cool in hot and warm in cold biomes. If the temperature gets to 0°C (32F) the player starts to freezing if not protected against the cold. If the temperature is too hot, make sure to wear no armor or protect yourself in another way against the heat…
