Environmental

by Patina

Environmental, a Forge client mod for Minecraft 1.8.9, lets a player change the time, weather, fog and clouds around them.

ForgeClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.8.9

What it does

Environmental gives the client control over the sky and the air around the player. Time can be set or changed, weather can be chosen, and the fog and cloud layers can be customized. Sun and moon can be hidden, and cloud color can be set to any value. Real-world weather and time can also be mirrored in the game world, so the scene follows the actual day outside.

Only the player's client needs the mod, so servers run without it and the changes stay on the local screen. The mod is published for Forge only, with a single build, v0.0.5 for 1.8.9, dated 2025-03-18 and marked as alpha. OneConfig is bundled inside the file, so no separate install is needed for its settings screen. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, and public source code is available.

Key features

  1. Time changer

Sets the in-game time of day on the client, independent of the world clock.

  2. Weather changer

Selects the weather shown to the player, such as clear, rain or storm, without changing the server.

  3. Customizable fog

Adjusts the fog density and distance so the visible range can be tuned to taste.

  4. Customizable clouds

Changes the cloud color and lets the sun and moon be hidden from the sky.

  5. Real-world time and weather

Mirrors the actual time and weather outside, so the in-game sky follows the real day.
