Zume
by Nolij
Zume, by Nolij, gives players a configurable zoom key that narrows the field of view while held, aimed at building and scouting.
What it does
Zume is a client-side zoom mod. Holding the zoom key narrows the field of view, and releasing it returns the view to normal, with no server component involved. The author describes the mod as an over-engineered take on a simple zoom, so its scope is deliberately narrow: zoom is the only function it adds.
Zume is open source under the Open Software License 3.0, a copyleft license chosen because the author judged the GPL and AGPL incompatible with Minecraft's linking, while the OSL still protects network use. Files exist for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 80 release versions, b1.7.3 – 1.21.11. Snapshot builds are also published, and the latest file for each loader is 1.2.2 for 1.21.11, dated 2026-04-25.
Embeddium is an optional dependency. Zume works without it, and installing it is a choice rather than a requirement. The source code and issue tracker are linked publicly.
Key features
Hold-to-zoom
The zoom stays active for as long as the key is held, then the field of view returns to its normal value.
Client-side zoom only
The effect applies on the player's own screen, so a server does not need any part of it.
Public issue tracker
Bug reports and requests can be filed in the public issue tracker linked from the project.

Use cases
Scouting distant terrain
A zoomed view helps a player look over a far-off base, ravine or landmark before walking there.
Precise building
Narrowing the view makes it easier to check the placement of distant blocks in a build.
Who it’s for: Players who want a zoom key on a Fabric, Forge or NeoForge client, including those who play snapshot builds, and players who prefer open source client mods.
How it compares
F1 Zoom is a Fabric-only client mod under the MIT License, open source, and published for 1.16 – 1.21.3. Scope covers Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.19.2 – 26.3 under the MIT License. Logical Zoom is Fabric-only, MIT licensed and open source for 1.18.2 – 26.3. Zume covers a wider loader set than F1 Zoom and Logical Zoom, and its license is the Open Software License 3.0, not MIT.
