Dyed Item Frames
by boyonk
Dyed Item Frames lets players color item frames with dyes at a crafting table and remove the color again in a water cauldron, for Fabric 1.20.1 – 26.1.2.
What it does
Item frames gain a dyed variant. Players combine a dye with an item frame in the crafting grid, and the frame takes on that color, much as leather armor does. Interacting with a cauldron filled with water removes the dye and returns the frame to its plain form.
The mod is a Decoration mod that also sits in Equipment, Utility, Adventure, Game mechanics and Mobs. Fabric API must be installed alongside it. Client and server both need the mod, and builds cover 1.20.1 – 26.1.2 with a latest Fabric file for 26.1.2. It is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Key features
Dyed item frames
Dye combined with an item frame in the crafting grid produces a frame with a splash of that color on its displayed item.
Undyeing in water
Right-clicking a water-filled cauldron with a dyed frame strips the color and restores the original frame.
Wide color range
The dye system exposes a very large set of distinct colors, with the author noting how many combinations were explored.

Use cases
Themed displays
Map rooms, gallery walls and shop fronts can use frames in matching colors, so displayed items fit a scheme.
Sorting frames by color
Dyed frames can mark storage or zones in a base, letting builders tell frames apart at a glance.
Who it’s for: Builders who decorate with item frames and players who want colored frames in survival or creative worlds. Server owners can install it on the server to let all players use the feature.
How it compares
Armor Restitched is a Fabric mod for 1.19.4 – 1.21.1 that is open source under the MIT License and runs on client and server. Better Armour Progression is a Fabric server-side only mod for 1.21.1 – 26.1.2 under All rights reserved, so clients need nothing. Dyed Item Frames sits in the same client and server environment as Armor Restitched but covers a later version range.
