Item Components

by boyonk

Item Components is a Fabric library that lets server owners change the default components of vanilla and modded items through data files, without writing code.

FabricServer-side onlyAll rights reserved1.20.5 – 1.21.11

What it does

Changes are written as JSON data and loaded from datapacks, so a server can alter max stack size, armor durability, attack damage and speed, default block placement state and other component values for chosen items. Entries can target a single item ID, an item tag, or an array of item IDs, and each entry can optionally set its own fields. Entries can inherit values from a parent entry, and inheritance follows only the parent's own components and targets, not the parents of the parent.

Because the work happens on the server, only the server needs the mod: players join without installing it, and the server can reload changes through a reload command instead of restarting. Item Components supports modded items as well as vanilla ones, which makes it useful for modpack creators who want to rebalance a pack's items in one place. The mod requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric only, across 14 release versions 1.20.5 – 1.21.11, under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Data-driven component changes

Component changes are defined in datapack files, so balance edits do not need a code change or a new build.

  2. Reloadable changes

Edited data can be reloaded on a running server, so tuning does not require a restart.

  3. Item, tag and array targets

Each entry can apply to one item ID, an item tag suffixed with a tag marker, or an array of item IDs.

  4. Modded item support

Entries can change components of items added by other mods, not only vanilla items.

Do players need Item Components installed?

No. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod.
